Using Herbal Medicines
- As with any medicine, care should be taken to read the label particularly regarding dosage instructions and cautions.
- In particular, some remedies - like any medicinal products - are not suitable for pregnant women or young children.
- Often herbal medicines need time to work. The effects may only become apparent after some days. Obviously cough medicines work quickly, but many herbal medicines need that longer term view in order to harness their ability to deliver the long term solution.
- Where you are already taking prescribed medicine, your doctor should be advised when additional OTC remedies - herbal or chemical are taken. Your doctor should be consulted before stopping the prescribed treatment.
- Over the counter (OTC) herbal medicines are generally known for being free from unwelcome side effects. If by any chance you notice a problem, the advice is to stop taking the product and consult a health professional.
- All medicines should be kept out of the hands of children.
- Do not use after the 'use by' date that is indicated on the product.
