The Idromed 5 GS or PS is an iontophoresis-therapy unit highly effective in the treatment of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). It functions by conducting a weak direct electrical current through hand or foot baths by electrodes, helping to inhibit the secretion of sweat glands without damaging the glands themselves . For the armpits, current is applied using wet sponge electrodes, which can be supplied with the unit.

There is also no danger of allergies, as the plate electrodes are made of nickel-free aluminium. Easy and quick use In the early stages of treatment, the affected parts of the body should be treated once a day for about 10–15 minutes. Generally 10–15 treatment sessions are sufficient to normalize the moisture content of the skin. After that the treatment frequency can usually be reduced to once or twice a week.

The affected parts of the body are put in a treatment tray, filled with usual tap water. A weak DC electrical current is conducted through the baths by electrodes.

This current is increased gradually to certain intensity, so that the patient experiences a pleasant tingling sensation.

The hands and feet can be taken out of the trays during the therapy without the usually known “electric fence effect” (electric shock). In most cases excessive perspiration can be treated with idromed 5 without pharmaceuticals or surgery.

The difference between the Idromed 5 GS and Idromed 5 PS units is the current. Idromed® 5 GS is equipped with direct current, which is used in most cases for the treatment of hands and feet. The current is chosen, so that the patient experiences a smooth tingling sensation.

If you want to treat the armpits, a young child or if you have a very low body resistance (that is, if you are very sensitive to the tingling sensation of the current), it is recommended to use the idromed® 5 PS (pulsating direct current), because the tingling sensation is almost non-existent with this unit.

The direct current and pulsed direct current iontophoresis-therapy is an internationally established and scientifically acknowledged treatment procedure, which is known for years.

In scientific studies the therapy with pulsed direct current with the idromed® 5 PS is rated as the optimum therapy method, thanks to its new current type, especially for very sensitive patients, children and young people.

Possible side effects are clearly reduced. The hands or feet can be taken out of the basins during the therapy without the usually known “electric fence effect” (electric shock).

Idromed 5 should not be used if the following cases apply to you,

1. Cardiac arrhythmia
2. Electronically controlled implanted devices, e.g. pacemakers
3. Metallic implanted devices in the area where the current flows
4. Metallic intrauterine implanted devices
5. Pregnancy
6. Bigger skin diseases
7. Insensitivity to pain
